About Us

As a local leader and champion for mental health, the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Halifax-Dartmouth Branch supports the resilience and recovery/well being of people living with mental illness and mental health problems through our social support programs, our support services, and the provision of information, resources, referrals, and advocacy in a space that is inclusive, safe, and respectful. We strive to create an environment of hope, to reduce stigma, and to promote mental health for all.

Our social programs serve marginalized adults who are living with moderate to severe mental illness and/or mental health problems. Our programs promote inclusion, creativity, recreation, and leisure. Programs include the Among Friends Social Club, Sharing and Caring Social Club and the Building Bridges Program. We also offer a Mental Health Community Coffee House and a weekly Zoom chat with musical entertainment for the wider community. We have adapted to a hybrid programming model during the pandemic.

Every year we organize the Mosaic for Mental Health Art Exhibition & Sale which has become a powerful expression of caring about mental health and mental illness. The Exhibition is held in October at The Craig Gallery, Alderney Landing, with sales online. Our 2022 Mosaic for Mental Health theme is “Together Again”.

CMHA is a federated charity, which means it is a collective of organizations bound together by a brand and mission. Branches work at the grassroots level. Together, we identify and respond to Canada’s most pressing mental health priorities.
